Essential Elements of a Nursery/Kids Room

Designing a nursery is one of the most exciting parts of becoming a parent! Choosing furniture and picking colors might not seem like a lot at first, but it means the world to the future parents who can’t wait for their newborn to arrive. Nevertheless, if you want your nursery to have that extra special feeling, you need to equip it with a few essentials, so here’s a quick guide to some of the most important items you must not forget. Get a glimpse of the baby milestones you would experience soon.

A crib/bed

essential elements of a Baby Nursery

Understandably, you can’t have a proper nursery without a proper crib and a quality mattress, and this might ultimately be the most vital part of your newborn’s life. Though this is a big investment, you shouldn’t cut corners when purchasing a crib because the price often determines the quality and durability, which, in turn, strongly affect your child’s health and well-being. What you might want to do, however, is purchase a convertible crib that’s also a bed, thus covering the toddler years of your child as well. If not, you can easily turn a crib into a bed on your own and prevent your kid from having to change beds for the first five or six years of their life.

Colorful walls

essential elements of a Baby Nursery

Naturally, your baby’s new nursery has to be as colorful and stimulating as possible, and the best way to ensure that is by focusing on the walls. Instead of painting them in boring colors, opt for an intriguing wallpaper design that will not only help your children learn shapes and colors, but also sparkle their interest to discover more. Adding a nice little photo collage up there as well, together with a few framed images of your loved one’s favorite cartoon characters, will make them fall in love with the room even more.

Fresh air all day long

Keeping a nursery adequately ventilated and making sure your baby is breathing fresh air all day every day is essential. However, while that’s certainly easy to accomplish when the weather’s nice, what about rainy days and cold winter months? Fresh air is vital for a newborn’s health, which is why more and more parents search for an alternative solution to this problem and try to find the absolute best air purifier for allergies. Such a device keeps the nursery fresh all day long and, at the same time, saves your child from dangerous allergies. These can be quite a big health risk in young age and lead to other serious diseases, so keeping them at bay is of the utmost importance.

Storage solutions

First-time parents might not realize how much stuff a small child needs, but they’ll learn soon – just imagine all those creams, lotions, clothes, blankets, toys and pile of toys an enormous mountain of diapers! In order to store all of these things, you should reconsider your nursery’s storage options and find new and sustainable ideas. Start with a sizeable closet your child is going to be able to use in the years to come as well, and continue with a few shelves, baskets, hampers, bins and toy boxes – these will help you stay organized and also teach your child responsibility from the youngest age.

Apart from all of these things, there are a couple of more essentials you mustn’t forget when designing a nursery – a colorful wall-to-wall rug that’s both cozy and intriguing, subtle lights that has a tendency to soothe children to sleep, a rocking chair where you and your baby can spend some time together and bond, and, of course, a changing table that makes changing diapers much easier and less stressful for everyone.

When we were expecting our daughter we were living in a very small flat so basically her crib was in the living room. Now she has her own room but nothing is really done because we will be going away next spring. Hopefully when we get back in a couple of years she will be excited to decorate her “nursery” room. I belive thought that fresh air and a lot of lights for a child rooms is important.

I never really had a nursery for my boys. They slept in my room until they were at least 18 months old and otherwise didn’t really spend any time in their room. I’m kind of sad about this because I did decorate for my first and made it a jungle theme, but he just never went in there until after I was pregnant with my youngest.
