The era of Remote control toys

When Remote control cars and helicopters rule!

In this digital era when kids are continuously diving into Smartphones , I Pads, getting them indulged in societal games is becoming difficult. There comes the role of Remote control toys or RC toys which are absolute fun for any age. Be it Preschooler, who has just forayed into this tech world or a 14 tear old teen, their fantasies for these RC games is never ending. They pose as perfect Birthday or Festival gifts for kids.

Developmental aspects of RC toys :

Apart from that, Remote Control toys are excellent for development of Motor skills, Cognitive skills and for gaining knowledge. When you explain your kid various parts of a car or truck or helicopter live in front, he will for sure retain that for a longer time. Along with this, getting to control the vehicle basis the controller helps in motor development as well. And when it comes to making decision : “Take back, right, left, get the proper space, etc.”, it promotes the cognitive skills of a child.

The reason why they are so popular is that they have the element of both fun, education and development. For a growing toddler, while the sounds and music entertains, to a teen the technology and the stunts entertain. But all during this, parents have to be cautious of the suitability of RC toys basis their kids ages. You cannot give a stunt car to your Toddler or Preschooler and hence comes the awareness of factors before getting RC toy for your kid.

Points to consider before choosing RC toy:

1.It has to be Age appropriate :

Yes, that’s the biggest factor we need to rate before springing up to buy. If you need to buy one for child less than 5year old, consider a basic start model of RC car or RC truck. Reason, it has simple controller with just 2 buttons to help kids enjoy. Too many buttons can just cause confusion.

As the age grows, the complexity levels can be increased and cars or trucks of better stunts can be gifted to them.

Further for younger kids, you can opt for musical RC toys so that the lights and sound attract them. Also when ordering musical toys, check out for the volume buttons and volume quality, so as to ensure they are soothing.

2. Safety :

This is another most important factor while buying the RC toy. RC packages have chargers, controllers, main toy and they all mostly electrically chargeable. They have batteries as well, so you need to ensure that all the all the compartments are properly screwed. Further charging should not be handed over to small kids. They have antenna’s installed as well to act as receivers. Ensure that your child doesn’t puts that in his mouth. Have a clear look at the design and ensure that there are no choking hazards or sharp edges which might hurt kids. Like, very small side mirrors can be a choking hazard, as they get off very soon usually.

3. Functions :

You need to know discreetly the speeds being controlled, charging durations, robustness of the body, Control distances , Flying times, weight it carries. This all has to be considered basis the age and development of your kid. While teens can plugin easily with cars racing more than 30mph, a 5 year old cannot. For younger kids, you would want the functional time (flying or racing time) more with quick charging.

  • I used to love to play with remote control cars when I was little. I even had a remote control boat, which sunk heroically after not even 5 minutes of being in the water because I managed to turn it upside down and the engine died. It was still fun though.

  • Ohh I have never thought that the remote control cars can help developpe your child! Thanks for making me learning something new! However, I still belive playing in the nature and interact with other is the best way for a child to learn things.

  • I think that RC toys are awesome but you are right you do have to think about whether it is age appropriate. But you also need to think about the 'developmental stage' they are at as well! x

  • This is so helpful. I love remote control cars. My kids have several of them and have a blast. One day we might get a drone.
